Chongqing Academy of Social Science
(CASS), an institution directly under Chongqing Municipality
People’s Government, is the only one social sciences research
organization in Chougqing. CASS was founded in March 1987, with
a predecessor called Chongqing Institute of Social Science.
The Development Research Center (Center) of Chongqing Municipality
People’s Government was founded in 1988, which is another function
and duty of CASS. Chen Shu is the president of CASS, the secretary
of the CPC leading group at CASS, and
the first associate director of the Center. Liao Yuauhe, Wang
Qingshan are the vice-presidents of CASS, the members of the
CPC leading group at CSAA, and associate directors of the Center.
CASS has set up 11 institutes, including
Institute of Economics, Institute of Enterprises, Institute
of Finance, Institute of Rural and Urban Development, Institute
of Rural and Urban Economics Development, Institute of law,
Institute of Sociology, Institute of Philosophy, Institute of
literature and History, Institute of International Economics,
Institute of Regional Economics; cooperated with other organizations
to set up CASS Yuzhong Branch, Institute Dazu Stone inscription,
Institute of Tourism Economics and Culture; set up 9 administrative
and research assistant departments, including General office,
Department of Research Organization, Department of liaison,
Department of Personnel, Department of Resource and Development,
Documents and information Center, Training Center and the Reform
Magazine.
Besides, CASS is in charge
of “Chongqing Association of Sociology”, ”Chongqing Institute
of Female Talents”, ”Chongqing Institute of Liang Shumin “,
”Chongqing Association of Notable People’s Career Promotion”.
Chongqing Research Center of “Three Representatives” was founded
in 2001, and was also in the charge of CASS.
As
a local academy of social sciences, CASS actively takes its
part in various researches of researches, and Development of
Economy and Society, cooperating with government and enterprises,
organizing and fulfilling near 200 projects. Some of the research
fruits and responding policy suggestions were accepted by the
relative departments of Chongqing Municipality People’s Government
and Chongqing Municipal Party Committee.
In
recent years, CASS has established extensive academic relations
with Japan, Russia, Canada, Sweden, Finland, and UK, and scholars
and academic organizations of Hongkong, Macau, Taiwan, cooperating
and exchanging academic ideas with them.
Years
of hard work bring achievements to CASS. CASS plays a very important
role in academia and research of economics, society, politics,
law, philosophy, literature and history. In recent 5 years,
CASS has published 26 monographs in total, finished near 100
research tasks, and won various prizes for its research achievements.
Many monographs and magazines published by CASS have gained
national wild praise, especially the Reform, listing the top
ten social fiction magazines for many years, having a deep influence
home and abroad.
CASS now has a
staff of 108 members, including very notable experts. CASS,
famous for its regional economics research, industrial economics
research, philosophy and sociology research and the Reform magazine,
now become a very important organization in Chongqing’s economic
and social development, a brain trust of Chongqing Municipality
People’s Government and Chongqing Municipal Party Committee.
